Good health is not just the absence of disease or illness, it is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. This means eating a balanced diet, getting regular exercise, avoiding tobacco and drugs, and getting plenty of rest.

What is healthy lifestyle?

A healthy lifestyle isn’t just diet and exercise. So what is a healthy lifestyle?
A definition in The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language says: “A way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group”.
A final definition of lifestyle is: “The aggregation of decisions by individuals which affect their health and over which they more or less have control”.
The world Health organization in  1946 defined health as ‘A complete state of mental, physical and social well-being not merely the absence of disease’

Here are some tips that helps you  to managing a healthier lifestyle 


1.Eat a variety of foods 

For good health, we need more than 40 different nutrients, and no single food can supply them all. It is not about a single meal, it is about a balanced food choice over time that will make a difference

2. Base your diet on plenty of foods rich in carbohydrates

About half the calories in our diet should come from foods rich in carbohydrates, such as cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes, and bread. It is a good idea to include at least one of these at every meal. Wholegrain foods, like wholegrain bread, pasta, and cereals, will increase our fiber intake.

3. Enjoy plenty of fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are among the most important foods for giving us enough vitamins, minerals and fibre. We should try to eat at least 5 servings a day

4. Reduce salt and sugar intake

    High salt intake can result in high blood pressure, and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. There are different ways to reduce salt in the diet:
    • When shopping, we could choose products with lower sodium content.

    5. Replace saturated with unsaturated fat

    Fats are important for good health and proper functioning of the body. However, too much of it can negatively affect our weight and cardiovascular health.
    • We should limit the consumption of total and saturated fats (often coming from foods of animal origin), and completely avoid trans fats; reading the labels helps to identify the sources.  

    6. Eat regularly, control the portion size

     Eating a variety of foods, regularly, and in the right amounts is the best formula for a healthy diet.
    Paying attention to portion size will help us not to consume too much calories, and will allow us to eat all the foods we enjoy, without having to eliminate any.
    • Cooking the right amount makes it easier to not overeat.
    • Some reasonable serving sizes are: 100 g of meat; one medium piece of fruit; half a cup of raw pasta.
    • Packaged foods, with calorie values on the pack, could aid portion control.

    7. Get on the move, make it a habit!

    Physical activity is important for people of all weight ranges and health conditions. It helps us burn off the extra calories, it is good for the heart and circulatory system, it maintains or increases our muscle mass, it helps us focus, and improves overall health well-being
    • use the stairs instead of the elevator,
    • go for a walk during lunch breaks (and stretch in our offices in between)
      

     Healthy Diet: A healthy and balanced diet is an important part of healthy lifestyle. Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. They have high water content and are rich in fiber which helps constipation and keeps us hydrated throughout the day. They also contain certain antioxidants the keep our skin looking younger. Omega 3 fatty acids reduce stress. Include vitamin C, magnesium and black tea to further reduce stress hormones and protect the immune system. Limit the amount of sodium and high carbonated foods in your diet. Eat whole grain foods to stabilize blood sugar.Exercise does not only benefit us physically but also mentally. It improves our relationships and enhances overall happiness. We all need some time alone for ourselves after a long day of work. Exercising is the best way to spend some time with ourselves. It is the biggest stress buster. Sweating it out and getting your endorphins running can help a lot in our mental and physical stress. It fights depression, anxiety, loneliness and makes us a happy person.

     A healthy lifestyle is one which helps to keep and improve people's healthand well-being. Many government and non government organisations work at promoting healthy lifestyles. They measure the benefits with critical health numbers, including weight, , blood pressure, and blood cholesterol. Healthy living is a lifelong effect. Being healthy includes healthy eating, physical activities, weight management, and stress management.
